Identification of the Capacities and Limitations of Strategic Wargaming Between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Zionist Regime in the Republic of Azerbaijan

Abstract

Given the strategic significance of the South Caucasus region and the threats posed by the presence of the Zionist regime in the Republic of Azerbaijan, the necessity of examining the capacities and limitations of strategic wargaming between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Zionist regime is increasingly felt. This study, using a qualitative approach and the grounded theory method, identifies these capacities and limitations within the context of Azerbaijan. The research is exploratory in nature, with a statistical population consisting of 15 military and academic experts selected through purposive and snowball sampling methods.

The findings indicate that in terms of capacities, optimal resource utilization, enhanced coordination among forces, and the ability to analyze regional scenarios are among the most significant factors. Regarding limitations, lack of complete realism, the influence of biases, and the challenge of simulating the fluidity of real warfare were identified as key obstacles. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and questionnaires, with reliability confirmed using Cronbach’s alpha (0.845).

In conclusion, the study suggests the adoption of advanced simulation technologies, the development of diverse and realistic scenarios, and the enhancement of military training. As a cost-effective and efficient tool, wargaming can play a crucial role in simulating threats, improving Iran’s security and military preparedness, and enhancing strategic decision-making in response to regional threats.
