This study investigates the behavioral patterns and emotional orientations of Iranian users on social media during the 12-day war with the Zionist regime. Given the unparalleled role of cyberspace in reflecting public opinion and its susceptibility to field events, analyzing this data is essential for understanding socio-political dynamics. The study's primary research question is: What was the dominant pattern of Iranian users' reactions to the war's developments in terms of content production, emotional orientation, and the influence of political currents?
The hypothesis posits that user orientation is influenced by two key factors: the narrative-building of political currents (Principalist, Reformist, dissident) and technical constraints, leading to a predominance of content consumption over production. Data collection relied on a quantitative content analysis approach from social media data (Telegram, Twitter, Eitaa), using metrics such as content publication frequency based on pivotal events. Data analysis was conducted through discourse analysis, measuring emotional orientation (positive, negative, neutral) and analyzing the discourse of political currents.
The findings indicate that Principalist users focused on a discourse of military strength and retaliation; Reformists emphasized a diplomacy-centered discourse and tension reduction; while dissidents concentrated on misinformation and promoting despair through negative portrayal. Consequently, cyberspace in this war became an arena for the reproduction of conflicting discourses and the intensification of political polarization. This study highlights the necessity of redefining cyber policies during crises to balance national security and freedom of action
